Brokers and dispatch

Carrier lists for freight brokers and dispatchers.

Find carriers by cargo, fleet size and home base in FMCSA records, find owner-operators who need loads, and check authority and insurance before tendering freight.

Find carriers for your lanes

  • Equipment: FMCSA records cargo classifications, not trailer types, but they are a close guide. Refrigerated food points to reefers; building materials, metal and machinery to flatbeds; liquids and gases to tankers; motor vehicles to car haulers. Filter on cargo_segments.
  • Home base: phy_state, phy_city and phy_zip locate the carrier’s physical address.
  • Reach: op_scope = interstate for carriers registered to cross state lines.
  • Size: power_units and total_drivers, or the ready-made fleet_bucket.

Dispatchers: owner-operators and small fleets

Dispatch services mostly work for single-truck operators and small fleets. 52.9% of active carriers report exactly one power unit; our owner_operator flag marks them. Newly authorized carriers are often looking for steady freight, and fresh leads deliver authority grants the morning we find them.

Check before you tender

A list is a snapshot. Before booking a load, check the carrier’s current operating-authority status and the insurance it has on file with FMCSA, and review its safety record; authority can be revoked and policies cancelled after a list is compiled. Most carriers have never received a safety rating, so an empty safety_rating is normal.

Commercial email to businesses is still covered by the CAN-SPAM Act: the FTC says the law “makes no exception for business-to-business email.” Use accurate sender details and honest subject lines, say the message is an advertisement, include a valid physical postal address, and honor opt-out requests within 10 business days (FTC guide).

Calls and texts need more care, because many owner-operators list a personal mobile number. The FCC’s rules prohibit autodialed or prerecorded calls to mobile numbers without the called party’s prior express consent, and telephone solicitations to residential subscribers whose numbers are on the National Do Not Call Registry (47 CFR 64.1200). A public FMCSA record is not consent. This is general information, not legal advice; check the rules for your channel with counsel.
